Flute Posture
Flute Posture
Keep your posture as natural as possible. This includes your lips, head, neck upper body, arms and legs.
Bring the flute to your mouth instead of letting your head lean forwards towards the flute.
Use a music stand when you practise.
Put your fingers on the keys as if you were going to play a D.
Bring the flute straight up - not to the side.
Turn your head to the left to look at the head joint.
Your right thumb pushes the flute forwards from behind so the lip plate is pushed against your chin.
Find a centred angle so your breath hits the centre of the head joint.
Keep your embouchure firm but relaxed.
Fast air makes notes higher.
